4,5,6 Five School Olympics held February 24th

Our local newspaper ran a wonderful article in the March 2nd issue covering our five school Olympics/ Inuit Games day.  Here are the pdf pages for you to enjoy.  A big big big thanks go out to our 4,5,6 teachers, Judy Lamb Richardson, parent volunteers and especially the Rimbey Lions Club for all their help before and during the day of our games.  It was a treat to have Mayor Dale Barr, Trudy Bratland our trustee, Dle Litke our Deputy Superintendant and Blaine Calkins our Member of Parliament in attendance.

Rimbey Elementary Gym Comes Alive at Recess!
Rimbey Elementary has a unique program for students to participate in during recess time!  Children are able to join in to a co-operative games gym group that is catered specifically to their grade levels.  Grade 1-3 children meet at first recess and play games that work towards playing well with others and inclusion.  Grade 4-6 children come together at last recess and participate in high energy co operative and team games, with an emphasis on playing fair and including everyone.  Several grade six students have also been chosen to join the program as leaders and mentors for the other children.
“Being a good leader in the gym group allows me to gain the kids trust, and they look up to me,” says grade six student Lane Franklin.  Jesse Hummel says, “it makes me feel good to know I am helping kids who maybe don’t have that many friends to play with.”  Fridays are a special day for both groups, the kids participate in “Free Time Fridays,”  “On this day, the kids bring a friend and get to choose the activity they would like to play,” says Mrs. Martel, staff leader of the groups.  “It is great to see the kids light up as they play games with their friends, it’s a great experience to be a part of!
