"Twin" Day - Show your school Spirit Day

Periodically RES will host a special “spirit” day.  These are fun activities that students and staff can participate in together to make RES not only a learning experience but also a fun place to be and to show our school spirit. These events are organized by our Student Council students.

The Student Council group have decided on “Twin” Day which will be on October 24th.

Plan to dress a friend,  a sibling, or dress like someone famous or special to you. Twins, triplets or more.  Have fun!!!

Michael's Studio Photo Order Deadline
Time: 9:00 am

Please make sure that your proof envelopes with order are back to the school by 9 AM.  Those parents/guardians wishing retakes - must return your proof envelopes back indicating you are requesting retakes.

Recognition Rally
Time: 2:15 pm - 3:00 pm

Each month RES will be focusing on  Character Education Program, “Seven Sacred Teachings.” This is part of the provincial mandate to begin including more FNMI content into AB Education.

The Seven Sacred Teachings are the traits of:   Respect, Love, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility & Truth.

The traditional concepts of respect and sharing that form the foundation of the Aboriginal way of life are built around the seven natural laws, or sacred teachings. Each teaching honors one of the basic virtues in intrinsic to a full and healthy life.

Each law is embodied by an animal to underscore the point that all actions and decisions made by man are manifest on a physical plain. The animal world taught man how to live close to the earth, and the connection that has been established between the animal world and that of man has instilled a respect for all life in those who follow the traditional Aboriginal way.

RESPECT—BUFFALO

LOVE/CARING—EAGLE

COURAGE—BEAR

HONESTY—SABE

WISDOM—BEAVER

HUMILITY—WOLF

TRUTH—TURTLE

Teachers will contact those parents of students that will be receiving an award.

RES 2019 Christmas Concert
Time: 12:30 pm

The 2019 Christmas Concert will on Wednesday, December 18th at the Peter Lougheed Community Centre starting at 12:30 pm; doors are unlocked at 12 noon. Audience members will only be allowed through the main entrance of the Community Centre as all other entrances will be used by our Staff to bring students into the Community Centre.

Students will be brought into the auditorium when their class is ready to perform. All students will remain at the school for regular classes until the dismissal time of 3:11 pm.

We would ask that parents make arrangements to stay for the entire Concert. It is very disheartening for the performers towards the end of the concert to a half empty auditorium.

Grades 4, 5, 6 - Canyon Ski Hill Trip
Time: 8:45 am - 4:31 pm

Grades 4, 5 & 6 students will be going skiing to Canyon Ski Hill (Red
Deer) on Friday, January 10, 2020. Parent volunteers must have a current:
 Vulnerable Sector Check on file with the school (this is good for 3
years)
 Criminal Declaration on file with the school (completed yearly)
 Volunteer Application on file with the school (completely yearly)

Please note, this is a ski trip for RE upper elementary students and their
parents/guardians who are volunteering to assist during the ski trip. It is
not for other guests or younger or older siblings who are not in grades 4
–6.

Parents will need to arrange their own transportation to and from
Canyon Ski Hill. The consent form with further information will be sent
home with students in early December. Fees will be applied and
payment to be made through the online Parent Portal and will be due,
along with the signed consent and payment receipt number, back to your
child’s homeroom teacher by December 17th @ 9 AM. Unfortunately,
we are unable to extend the deadline as all numbers must be confirmed
with the ski hill at that time.
Payments are made through Parent Portal and RYCOR payment module.
Should you require assistance please contact the school office directly
before the deadline date as issues may take up to 48 hours to “fix”.

Alberta Farm Safety

Through 7 distinct "Safety Smarts" presentations, rural children from kindergarten through grade six are taught to recognize and react safely to a wide variety of potential farm hazards. Age appropriate, hands-on, interactive farm safety messages are taught to individual classes of rural students; with each grades presentation having a unique focus.

"Safety Smarts" presentations are offered to ALL schools in rural Alberta

In response to a recently released 20 year study of agriculture-related injuries and fatalities in Alberta, we have updated the focus of many "Safety Smarts" presentations to ensure that the safety concepts we teach respond to the real risks being encountered by rural children. The majority of non-work related fatalities on Alberta farms involve children and youth (0-14 years).

RES classes are each given a 45 minute safety presentation.

Science in Motion Residency

On April 15th and 16th RES classes  will be participating in a one hour, hands on,  program delivered by a scientist visiting from TELUS World of Science Edmonton with the “Science in Motion” program.

“Science in Motion” is a TELUS World of Science - Edmonton exclusive School Program.  It brings exciting science presentations to rural communities. Through experiments, demonstrations and hands-on activities, they make science fun, dynamic and easy to understand. Science in Motion programs are a valuable resource because it meets learner objectives set out by the Alberta Science Curriculum making them a valuable resource for schools.”

These presentations are made possible through the supplemental fee that each student pays—without this fee it would not be possible to host these events at our school.
