On July 19, 2023, from 9:00-3:00 pm, at École Secondaire Lacombe Composite High School (Summer School), we will be hosting a Data Science Hackathon.
Who – Wolf Creek students just finishing grades 5 or 6 When – July 19, 2023 Where – Ecole Lacombe Composite High School (Summer School) Time – 9:00 am – 3:00 pm Cost – Free (to WCPS students) Bring - Chromebook (if you can) and waterbottle. Lunch will be provided.
This event, organized by Callysto, will teach grades 5 & 6 students in-demand data science skills in a fun and challenging environment.
Callysto is a federally funded initiative to foster data science and computational thinking in Grades 5 to 12 in Canada. A recent hackathon hosted in Edmonton was a success, and this is an exciting opportunity for students and teachers in Wolf Creek Public Schools. During this hackathon, students will be introduced to computational thinking and data science by Callysto staff. Students will then work on hackathon challenges for the rest of the day and submit it for judging, with chances to win prizes!
Students should have their own device with a keyboard but Summer School does have a limited number of Chromebooks for students to use.
Students should also bring a water bottle.
Lunch will be provided by Callysto.
