Back To School - Kindergarten Information
Dear Kindergarten Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to Kindergarten! We hope that you find this information helpful in preparing your child for kindergarten.
To stay current with RES happenings, our school website is updated on a regular basis including information pages, current school events, school council agendas/minutes, school calendar (which you can subscribe to). We encourage you to check it, and our Facebook page frequently.
Absence Procedure
- Please report student absence/late prior to 8:00 AM by contacting 403-843-3751 or res@wolfcreek.ab.ca. Please indicate the child’s first and last name, teacher’s name and the reason for the absence, so we may record it appropriately in the attendance module.
Bell Schedule
- 8:15 AM - staff on supervision
- 8:24 AM - welcome bell (students should not arrive before 8:15; as there is no supervision)
- 3:11 PM - dismissal
There is no supervision after the buses depart at 3:20 pm, therefore students are expected to depart for home upon dismissal.
Bus
- Students must be registered prior to the first day of school.
o Register online using your Parent Portal or through School Engage.
- Students may begin riding the bus to and from school starting Sept 3.
- Please provide your child’s teacher with the bus number & name of your child’s bus driver on the first day of class.
- For bus inquiries, please contact Wolf Creek Public Schools Transportation Services at 403-785- 0726 or transportation@wolfcreek.ab.ca.
Calendar
- See our school calendar for school days including which Friday your child is scheduled to attend classes.
- Please make note of a revision to the kindergarten calendar. October 4th and November 15th are Mon/Wed Fridays. This is to even out the number of days for each program. Tue/Thr students do not attend on Oct 4th & Nov 15th.
Program Day Information
- To see which program day your child will be in, please visit the Parent Portal after 4:00 PM, August 30.
o Your Parent Portal online account was set up when you registered your child online through School Engage.
- We strive to place your child in your preferred program day; however, class placements are based on several factors, including student numbers, date of registration and required documentation received, program day availability, and student needs.
Demographic Update & Consent Forms
- Prior to the first day of school, please complete the Student Demographic Update forms via your Parent Portal account.
- Please complete the forms in a timely fashion as this is an Alberta Education mandate and there are liability issues if the forms are not completed.
- Until the Student Demographic Update forms are complete, students will not be allowed to access any technology, will have limited access to physical education activities and will not be permitted to leave school grounds for activities, such as the Terry Fox Run in September.
Fees
- Student fees are due at the beginning of September each year.
- All fees must be paid online through the Parent Portal.
o Please click the "student fee" tab on the bottom left of the screen.
o Cash/cheque payments will not be accepted.
- Please Note: all supplemental fees are required to be paid prior to optional items (paid lunches) or extra-curricular activities being available for purchase.
- Payment options are available if your family is experiencing financial hardship.
First Day of School (staggered entry)
- Kindergarten students alternate attending class and have a later start time during the first week of school. This allows for a shorter, smaller class to help staff and students get acquainted.
- Staggered entry according to surname as follows:
Sept 3 - T/Th students with surnames beginning with “A-L” attend
Sept 4 - M/W students with surnames beginning with “A-L” attend
Sept 5 - T/Th students with surnames beginning with “M-Z” attend
Sept 6 - M/W students with surnames beginning with “M-Z” attend
Regular classes begin the week of Sept 9. Please see the school calendar for the Fridays your child will attend.

School Supplies
- Please have your child bring all school supplies on the staggered entrance day of school including indoor shoes, lunch, snack & water bottle.
- Be sure to label all extra clothing, coats and shoes in case they get misplaced.
- Please do not send shoes with laces if your child is unable to independently tie their shoes. Unfortunately, it is time consuming for the teacher to assist students with tying shoes when transitioning for recess and back into the classroom.
- Velcro shoes are best for kindergarten students
- In addition to the Supply List, teachers may require a few additional supplies which will be communicated on your child’s first day of school.
- Parents can purchase labels for their students' supplies, at their discretion, through an ongoing fundraiser organized with Mabels Labels. Funds that are generated from this organization will be credited to Rimbey Parent Council Foundation, who helps to supplement items for our school.
Many thanks for your cooperation in helping us set up for the fall. We are looking forward to seeing all our students!
